Severe Calf Pain. Dehydration? Concerned About DVT
My mother has sudden onset of severe calf pain. She is normally very active and walks about 2 miles a day. She went to the doctor and they said it was dehydration. I know she does not drink enough water and this has been a problem before; but the leg pain is very new. There does not appeal to be any swelling or redness. I am concerned about DVT. She can hardly walk or put any weight on the leg. Thank you, Kathy
Sorry to hear about your mother's problem. The kind of pain you are describing, can be explained by DVT and this should be ruled out immediately. You should get a doppler scan of the legs done and this would give a definitive diagnosis. If it turns out to be DVT, treatment in the form of anti-coagulants should be started immediately. The other possibilities for such a pain could be a ruptured achilles tendon or a hematoma in the calf muscle.
Hoping for the best.
