Hi, thanks for asking in Healthcare Magic.
Although the symptoms may vary in each individual,
migraine is usually associated with throbbing head ache, nausea,
vomiting, hot flushes and cold sweats and the types of drugs used depends upon the severity of symptoms. But first, you should confirm if the headache is due to migraine as many other conditions may also result in similar symptoms.
Drugs belonging to triptans like
Sumatriptan are very effective in managing an acute (severe) attack. But this drug should not be given in persons with heart problem. Since the duration of action of these drugs is often shorter than the duration of headache, repeated doses (atleast twice a day) may be necessary. So don,t take this drug without consulting your treating Dr.
If you are getting migraine frequently, than drugs like
Flunarizine or
Propranolol may be effective in preventing the attack. These drugs should be taken daily as per your Dr's advice. Avoid caffeine, chocolate and bananas which can aggravate migraine.
I hope this is useful to you.
