Hi there,
Thanks for your query.
From the brief information provided, the intermittent
chest pain can be due to Post-
cholecystectomy dumping syndrome, a condition in which, excess of bile and acid tend to regurgitate into the food pipe, which leads to pain in the center of the chest as well as left side of chest and occasionally, bitter fluid into the mouth.
Further, though doctors have ruled out heart problems, Prinzmetal's angina is still a possibility, in which there is a transient spasm (narrowing) of the blood vessels supplying the heart and causing transient angina. There is no physical narrowing of these blood vessels. hence, all tests, including ECG, TMT, 2-D Echo, Thallium scan and even angiogram can be normal. This possibility is particularly high in those with risk factors, such as obesity, chronic smoking, regular alcohol intake,
high blood pressure, presence of
diabetes and
high cholesterol levels.
Further, occasional, transient spasm of the chest muscles between the ribs can cause similar pain.
There is no harm in taking anti-acid drug such as
omeprazole twice daily +
domperidone thrice daily for a month and see if you get similar chest pain while on these drugs.
