Severe Weight Gain, Hairfall, Reduced White Cell Count After Taking PTU For Hyperthyroidism. Healthy Lifestyle. Suggest
Hi Doctor, I'm Ms. Miller. I have hyperthyroidism and had been taking PTU on and off (more off than on) for about seven years. This medication does lower my thyroid activity when I take it, but it does me more harm than good. I gain uncontrollable weight, it had lowered my white cell count some, my hair has fallen out and I am starting to get very frustrated because I eat very healthy foods I walk 3.35 miles 5-6 days per week and nothing gives. the weight I have gained from this drug is like no other and is very stubborn and hard to get rid of. This drug should be taken off the drug market.

Hi thanks for using HCM.
PTU is a antithyroid drug which often needs dose to be carefully titrated over a period of months, with regular doctor visits and blood tests to monitor results. otherwise it can result in hypothyroidism. you need to take drug regularly with dose adjustment. your symptoms will be controlled better with this.
Avoid foods high in iodine, Consult your doctor for examination and dose adjustment Hope I answered your question. Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries. Wish you good health. Take care.
