Should Cephalexin Be Changed Due To Contraindication With Metformin?
This morning a DR. at Urgent care prescribed 500mg cephalexin tabs 3-times a day for an infected insect bite (assumed cellulitis). However, I am type 2 diabetic and note on drugs.com that cephalexin and metformin normally should not be used together. I take 500mg metformin #x daily with meals. Blood sugar is well controlled with last A1C of 6.0. Dr was aware of my daily meds. Should I call him and request a change ? I cannot take Bactrim due to allergy.

Three drugs are reported to interact with cephalexin. Patients on metformin who take cephalexin may experience increased serum levels of metformin along with increased metformin side effects (GI and headaches).
