Should HIV Be Checked Again If The Previous Results Are Non-reactive?

Hello Doctor

Today Sept 22, 2014 I got my HIV Ag-Ab Screening (CMIA) results is Nonreactive (0.10) the counselor said I am "Negative" but I had a risky encounter last January 4, 2014 (8 months ago) is it safe to say I am okay and nothing to worry with 8 months past? or should I get another test?

Thank you!

Hello there,
HIV testing after exposure to risk 8 months back showing negative means that you are not infected. Antibodies do take a window period to appear but maximum in 3 months time you will have enough antibodies to be detected by normal blood tests.
So rest assured but continue to be cautious and follow safe sex, safe needles practices.
Take care.
