Should I Be Concerned About RAAS System Stimulation While Suffering From Water Retention And Muscle Twitches Post High-potassium Diet?

My issues are water retention and muscle twitches (all over body). The onset of this problem is a low sodium/high potassium diet that I followed for a year. I eat normally now but my problems are still persistent. Basically I did stimulate my RAAS system for a very long time. What complications could follow this? My initial lab results are good.

Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to a metabolic disorder. I recommend performing some blood lab tests:

- Complete blood count
- PCR
- Thyoroid hormone levels
- Cortisol and aldosterone plasma levels
- NT pro BNP plasma levels
- Vitamin D and calcium plasma levels
- Blood electrolytes including magnesium
- Kidney and liver function tests

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
