Should I Be Concerned About Dizzy Spells When Sitting/ Standing, Hurting Rib Area Upon Coughing, Laughing After A Fall On The Back?
Yesterday I fainted in the kitchen and fell back and hit my head on the hard wood floor. It took about 5-10 seconds for my husband to wake me. I was very dizzy and nauseous for 6-8 hrs after. I am still having some dizzy spells when I get up from sitting or from standing to sitting or when looking up for a minute or two. I am having just slight nausea. I also woke in the middle of the night noticing front rib pain under my left breast, it feels like its bruised, but I woke up laying on my back and I'm pretty sure I only fell on my back. The rib area hurts when I sit up, cough, laugh ..those types of things. I plan to make an appt. with my pcp tomorrow. Is this something that can wait?
It should not wait. Your symptoms may indicate some serious brain injury like bleeding. The trauma was strong enough to cause loss of consciousness. So it could do even more. Nausea, dizziness, headache are symptoms of increased pressure in the brain. Rib pain should be also checked as you may have rib fracture. The fracture itself is not dangerous however it may cause pneumothorax which can be life threatening. That is why you should visit a doctor as soon as possible. Head CT, chest X-ray and ribs X-rays should be done.
Hope this will help. Regards.
