Should I Be Concerned About My Child Experiencing Mild Stomach And Chest Pain While Breathing, And Occasional Black Stool?
Hello, my 10 year old daughter complains of mild pain running through her stomach to the chest area while breathing. Is this something to be concerned about? A few weeks ago she passed stool which was black in color a couple of times, but that got normal after that. Is this something to be concerned about?
Black stools in a child can be due to dietary intake like licorice, blueberries or blackberries. It can also be due to certain medicines like iron supplements etc. However, these may be due to certain medical conditions of upper gastro-intestinal tract like- any bleeding due to ulcers in the esophagus or stomach, enlarged veins of esophagus (esophageal varicose veins).
Usually these conditions may be accompanied by nausea, vomiting or pain in the area of chest or upper abdomen, fever or diarrhea etc. As your child is having pain from stomach to the chest area, you are advised to see your pediatrician to confirm or rule out any related condition & management accordingly, if indicated.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
