Should I Be Concerned About Swelling And Redness On The Calf While On Warfarin?
I have had leg hematoma previously. Last time was just after starting on Warfarin in January of this year. It was in the right upper calf. Have been on Warfarin since then. Other meds include baby aspirin and blood pressure medicine. This current problem is in the lower calf and ankle. Swollen, very red and very tender. The last hematoma went away by itself after a few weeks. Had an MRI about three weeks into the symptom. Nothing was prescribed by the cardiovascular specialist. Should I be concerned?
As per your description, you are on 2 medication which affects blood coagulation. Warfarin and aspirin both can cause bleeding as a side-effect.
So calf swelling, redness and tenderness are because of them. I the advice you to consult a cardiologist, who may advise you to stop warfarin or decrease the dose of warfarin. Swelling and redness will relieve on its own.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
