Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Should I Be Concerned About Swelling, Pain In My Right Arm, And Right-sided Chest Pain After A Radial Heart Catheterization?
I had a radial heart catheterization this past Tuesday. I told them not to use my right arm because of my bilateral mastectomy in 2006. They did so anyway. I called hospital and was assured my lymphedema, etc, shouldn't be affected since it was an arterial access rather than venous. Yesterday I had a migraine, itching all over and nausea. Today my right arm is swollen and painful, I have right-sided chest pain and I was just about to call my cardiologist office. Your assessment
Your symptoms seem to be caused by a local infection. For this reason, I recommend consulting with your attending physician for a physical exam, a Doppler ultrasound of the arm vessels and inflammation tests (complete blood count, PCR, ESR).
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
