Should I Be Concerned About The Thick Brown Discharge Having A Impalanon?

I am 20 years old and I have had my impalanon for about 2 and a half years. Yesterday I started to notice a thick brown discharge. I haven t had any bleeding since I got the implant. I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend, but we ve been together almost a year. Is this a normal thing on impalanon or should I be worried?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is quite common after implanon insertion.

Nothing much to worry and is due to hormonal effects.

Generally, it will settle in a couple of days.

If symptoms persist better to consult a gynecologist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
