Should I Be Concerned For Having Torn Ligament In Shoulder Area?

My son fell from a bike yesterday when he was going downhill at about 20 miles/hour. He tried to avoid someone and he ended up fell on the ground. He torn the ligament in his shoulder area and bumped his head. His bicycle helmet had a crack after he fell. He felt a little dizzle and felt like vomiting yesterday. But he didn t throw up yesterday and does not has the vomiting feeling today. He s 17 years old and 6 tall. Should I send him to ER for further checkup.

Hi,

Yes. He should be followed up after a bump on the head especially if he continues to have head ache and/or vomiting. The shoulder ligaments injury may net be an absolute emergency he will need to be assessed if he continues to have any symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. John Chacko, Orthopedic Surgeon
