Should I Be Concerned For The Sharp Chest Pain And Having A History Of Coronary Angioplasty And A Metal Stent Inserted?

I M a 62 yr old female. Previous coronary angioplasty x 2 with a bare metal stent and a drug eluding stent 4 years ago. I have recently been experiencing brief (lasting seconds only) intermittent feelings of sharp mid chest pain that briefly makes me catch my breath. Should I be concerned.

Hi. Welcome to HCM. Chest pain following successful coronary angioplasty is a common problem. Although not all pains are serious, it is better to consult your doctor if u are having them frequently. Such pain may be indicative of acute coronary artery (means arteries of heart) closure, coronary artery spasm or myocardial infarction, but may also simply reflect local coronary artery trauma. The distinction between these causes of chest pain is crucial in selecting optimal care. Management of these patients may involve repeat coronary angiography and additional intervention. U may also need repeat coronary angiography following angioplasty. But do remember most patients after angioplasty experience chest pain and it could be stretch pain due to the overdilation and stretching of the artery caused by the stent which is not serious. My advice is consult your cardiologist and he will evaluate u and decide what to do. Regards.
