I am 38 weeks pregnant, was just diagnosed with high blood pressure yesterday, and began experiencing sharp, shooting pains below my left collar bone last night. They have not stopped since around 8pm last night. I was not doing anything physical, and I am on bedrest, so there has been no strain to my collar bone. Please help.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
HI, I understand your concern. * HIgh blood pressure at 38 weeks of pregnancy, it a point to be taken care of. usually at this stage urine is examined for presence of albumin in it along with ant urine infection. edema on feet is also considered while planning the management. Your doctor must have given you medicnes to control it .. take them along with rest Avoid physical/ psychological stress.Your blood pressure & associated problems should l be controlled by the time of delivery & avoid further complications. So strictly follow the advise given. Pain above left collar bone remaining constantly for few hours & are not associated with problem like palpitation.. are likely to be pain/ sprain due to uneasy posture in sleep/ related to cervical spondelitis. Still it's suggested..to get it checked by your doctor. Thanks.
I have gone through your history. You should have mentioned how much was the blood pressure.
With high bleed pressure, there is pain in the left shoulder (Collar bone forms a part of shoulder), then the first suspicion is of Heart pain. Did you have palpitations, profuse sweating - particularly on the forehead, breathlessness? Please do not neglect nor delay. Report to your Obstetrician and the Physician (Cardiologist) for cardiac check up. You may require cardiogram done.
Please take complete bed rest till the investigations are completed. Low dose aspirin might help, however only after the doctor has examined and advised you.
Please take care.
