Dear Doctor, For me in 23 weeks ultrasound, fetal right kidney shows fullness of pelvicalyceal with RPD of approx: 8.0 mm in thickness and left renal RPD of approx. 4.00 mm in thickness, urinary bladder appears normal. It is a baby Boy. Is it to be concerned seriously.
well a cut off of 10mm is taken , if the pelvicalyceal system is less than that, then we advise 3 weekly follow up with scan to monitor the thickness. idea is to avoid any form of intrauterine surgery to treat the pathology, he may have posterior urethral valves , the most common reason. if till term the size remains less than 10mm, kidney function will not be harmed and after delivery he can be followed up again and if need be then surgery can be performed on him by a paediatric surgeon to correct the anomaly. regards
