Should I Consult The Specialist For The Sweet Smell Of Stools Having Being Diagnosed For Crohn's Disease Few Years Ago?
I have Crohns disease and have had 3 resections. I have not had any pain for approx. 10 years so believe I have no active disease at the moment. I have noticed of late, though that my stools have a sweet smell, and as is usually the case is not formed. lIs this ok and should I consult my specialist even though I have no other symptoms.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, Sweet smelling stools may result from medicines in syrup forms., food habits. If there is no problem, you need not bother about it, Soft & bulky stools smelling sweet ,probably are due to lac of enzymes digesting sugar- so it accumulates in stools & gives it a sweet smell.- such condition probably indicates a digestive enzyme supplement by your doctor's advice. However it's better to have a periodic check up by your Gastro enterologist for early detection of crohn's disease. Thanks.
