Should I Continue Medication For Meningitis After Getting Pregnant?
Hi docter ,I suffered from meningitis in brain in last january2015...Last April I got merrige . I am taking medicine Akt2 ,3 more months is left to finish it but I got pregnant now so what should I do?can I continue to take medicine or will it affect to baby ?
Hi & Welcome to HCM. I can understand your concern and the situation. You can continue the prescribed medication AKT-2 during pregnancy. The anti-TB medications Pyrazinamide and Streptomycin are not safe during pregnancy as they can cause spina bifida (open neural tube defect) and deafness the new born babies hence they are CONTRAINDICATED during pregnancy. AKT-2 contains anti TB medications Isoniazide & Rifampicin does not affect the unborn baby hence they can be taken for another 3 months.Your pregnancy can be continued with regular monitoring of your liver enzymes, with good and regular antenatal check ups and regular tests such as ultrasound scan, one can ensure a safe pregnancy. I hope the answer and recommendations are adequate and helpful. A feed back is appreciated.
