Should I Get A Second Opinion For An Injury In My Tongue Swelling?

I was in a car accident last tuesday and my tongue was cut very deep. Hardly any bleeding but I have a hole in the center of my tongue that will not heal and is very sensitive to foods. Doctor at hospital said it would heal really fast and not to worry. But a week later and hole is deep still and now swollen around it with some slight redness. Should i have stitches or get a second opinion? It kind of looks like a slash and you can open it to see the hole.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.

Read and understood that you have had an accident wherein you had a perforating injury of the tongue and the Doctor did not stitch in the hope that it will heal on its own.
The whole persists in spite of the treatment.
Since tongue is a very strong muscular organ the muscles must have worked in opposite direction particularly for this wound.

I would advise you to visit a Surgeon and get the wound freshened up and stitched together and now it will heal within a few days and your problems will be over.
