Should I Get Medical Attention For Swollen Ankles, Nausea, Weakness And Heart Palpitations When Diagnosed With Atrial Fibrillation?

Hello Dr. Gupta, I am 65 yr old female. I have atrial fibrillation with rapid heart beat. My feet and ankles are swollen, my oxygen level is 80, and I am short of breath. Feel kind of nauseated and weak. Is this something I should get medical attention for?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms are suggestive of heart failure. For this reason, I recommend consulting with a cardiologist for a physical exam and some tests:
- A cardiac ultrasound
- A resting ECG
- a chest X-ray study
- Blood lab tests including NT pro BNP values and thyroid hormone levels

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
