Should I Have The Cyst On The Back Of Leg Which Produces Smelly Pus Surgically Removed?
i ahve what appears to be a cyst on the back of my leg. Based on research I have done on this site it appears to be a sebaceous cyst with a smelly puss. I have had this thing for years. The vast majority of time its just a small bump but every once in a while it will become irritated, swell, and produce this smelly puss. I will get the puss out, clean it, and then it will go back to its normal state. Should I have this surgically removed?
I read carefully your query and understand your concern.
Sebaceous cysts most often disappear on their own and are not dangerous. As stated, however, they may become inflamed, tender, and even infected. If an infected sebaceous cyst is not promptly treated, the infection can spread into the surrounding skin. In this case antibiotics may be needed to treat the infection. Antibiotics are used orally and locally. If the infection persists you may consider surgical removal.
