Should I See A Cardiologist For Mild Dilation Of The Left Atrium?
I had a PDA closure in 1952. I am 72 now. about 10 yrs. ago echo showed mild regurgitation of the aortic and mitral valves. this month echo showed mild dilation of the left atrium. I am 72, my mother died whenshe had heart surgery at 76. I only see an Internist. she said ignore all this. should I see a cardiologist? I am diabetic, have high blood pressure & hypothyroidism.
His is not a concerning echo finding. Anyway, consulting with a cardiologist is necessary in order to optimize your current therapy. If you have shortness of breath, an exercise stress test and NT pro BNP values should be done. You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
