Should I Take Previously Prescribed Clindamycin Medication For Possible Symptoms Of UTI During Pregnancy?
I have a prescription for clindamycin hcl 300mg I was prescribed when I was pregnant last year and I am currently pregnant now and I want to take it just in case I’m trying to get a uti or bladder infection due to cloudy urine, but I’m not sure what it was for and why I was prescribed it. So I was wondering should I take it or wait and ask my doctor
Clindamycine is used for many types of infections including bacterial vaginosis. This drug has no pregnancy related complication, while being used in 2nd trimester of pregnancy. It might be a possibility, that you might have been prescribed this drug for UTI in your last pregnancy.
Still, you are advised to consult your doctor, before taking the drug. Though, no teratogenic effect has been noted with this drug, still, severe diarrhea with blood & mucus has been seen in rare cases in general practice, which may be fatal also at times.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
