Should I Take Statins For My Cholesterol Id 268 And LDL Is 150?
Should I be on statins? My total cholesterol:268 LDL: 150 HDL: 108 Trig: 52 Glu: 100 I m afraid of side effects .Tried dietary changes and exercise 5-6 times weekly. But not much improvement.
Because LDL cholesterol is a major risk factor for heart disease, it's the main focus of cholesterol-lowering treatment like statins .Statins dont have much side effects if liver function tests are normal like sgot and sgpt,so if LFT is normal u can safely take statins.Your target LDL number can vary, depending on your underlying risk of heart disease
Most people should aim for an LDL level below 130 mg/dL . If you have other risk factors for heart disease like smoking ,sedentary life style, obestity ,age above 40,history of heart disease in family, your target LDL may be below 100 mg/dL . If you're at very high risk of heart disease like previous history of heart attack, you may need to aim for an LDL level below 70 mg/dL .
