Should I Take Steroids For Hyper Pigmentation Which Is Sore And Often Peels?
Hello..myself Dr deepti...i hv developed perioral hyperpigmentation...for which I used melalong n benzyol peroxide,as prescribed by doctor...but it didn t settle... It pains,gets very oftenly dry,peels off... Now,the other dermatologist has adviced me steroids...what should I do?

Hi,
It may be perioral dermatitis most probably. Exact cause is not known. But, some factors may trigger the disease like cosmetic, soap, flourinated toothpaste... etc. Avoid local steroid as well as oral steroid. You may apply metronidazole gel or tacrolimus oint. Cap doxycycline for long time may improve the condition. Avoid soap, flourinated toothpaste and cosmetics.
