Should I Visit A Surgeon Or A General Practitioner For Infection Around Bowel Surgery Incisions?
i had a bowel obstruction or so the doctor thought. I had 15 inches taken out of my bowel due to it being black and dying....I keep getting infections in my stomach around the incisions, now the skin is getting thinker and they are opening to let the blood/ infection out. Do I go back to the surgeon or can I go to a regular doctor/

Hi,
It depends on how deep is the infection and your health condition. If the infection is superficial on the incision site and you do not have abdominal pain or tenderness a general practitioner doctor can take care of the wound. But if you have abdominal pain, tenderness, fever and nausea/vomiting consult your surgeon. These symptoms indicate infection in the abdominal cavity and should be taken care of by your surgeon.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
