Should I Wait For My Daughters Lumps On Neck To Cure As Per Her Pediatrician S Advice?

I found out that my daughter has 2 lumps on her neck, one is about 1-2cm and the other one is smaller. I went to her pediatrician yesterday and told me to wait for them to disappear in 6 weeks. I m still worried and I am thinking 6 weeks is kinda long. Should I worry or should I get a second opinion in 2 weeks if they did not disappear?

Hi,

What you are talking about is probably lymph nodes in neck. Their enlargement is very common in children. Common reasons include dandruff, pediculosis, tooth infection, pharyngitis. If the swelling is not painful, she is not having recurrent fever, loss of appetite and weight loss, then there is nothing to worry.

For such cases, after ensuring that other lymph nodes (axilla, groin) are also not enlarged, I also ask my patients to come after 1-2 months and reassess- if size/number enlarges or the above said symptoms develop, I will go for a blood count+ESR, peripheral smear and sometimes FNAC (testing needle aspirate from the node). Your doctor has advised the right thing- stay confident.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK, Pediatrician
