Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Should I Worry About Irregular Heartbeat And Take Medication For It?
months and All have been clear how ever I was taking my blood pressure with a home cuff the other day just for fun and my blood pressure was normal 114/70 but the irregular heart beat thing came up so I took it again. Over the past couple days I’ve taken it multiple times and every time I get that symbol. I just had my annual checkup less then a week ago and everything was normal. Oh and I’m an 18 year old female athlete. Do you think I should worry too much about the irregular heart beat sign on home monitor?
I would recommend performing an ambulatory 24/48 hours ECG monitoring in order to exclude possible cardiac arrhythmia. At your age, cardiac arrhythmia could be related to different possible causes (thyroid gland dysfunction, anemia, caffeine intake, anxiety, etc.). For this reason, I would recommend performing some blood lab tests in order to exclude possible anemia or thyroid gland dysfunction.
The next step to follow considering the fact that you are an athlete, is to perform a cardiac MRI in order to exclude possible athletes heart, which is a type of arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
