Should Isosorbide Be Taken Daily To Manage Chest Pain?

My doctor has ordered isosorbide for me because I have occasional chest pain which goes through to my back. My blood pressure is also occasionally high, but not most of the time. It is usually about 128/70. I take a number of other meds and I really don t want to add any if I don t have to. I m always afraid of side effects. My cardiac cath showed blockage of 40%. Is it really necessary to take medicine every day? Why not the old nitro that worked quickly and only as needed?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

* As there is 40 % of blockage, there is definite need of antianginal drug on regular basis for better symptom free life.

* I recommend to continue the same drug as directed by your physician for best possible outcome.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
