Should Lecithin Be Taken Instead Of Lipitor Due To Restless Legs Syndrome?

I have been taking Lipitor 40mg at night. Shortly afterwards I had symptoms like restless Legs syndrome when I take my legs off the ground, and prevents me sleeping. They feel extremely tight, sometimes burning feet, sometimes cramp. Should I take lecithin instead? I had a triple bypass twelve years ago. I am 82 years old. Barbara Hill

Thank you for visiting HCM. Your answer is absolutely not. Lecithin is not for restless leg disorder and has nothing to do with Lipitor, I don't understand the rationale for the trade off. The symptoms you describe are not consistent with restless leg but with nerve pain and perhaps low magnesium. You had a triple bypass and you are 82! My goodness, congratulations for a life well lived! At 82 it is right to question whether you need a statin, but here you are after a triple bypass - maybe you need to just keep following doctors orders. I would check with the doctor on the burning feet as there is a cream out there (capsaicin) made out of red peppers that helps with that burning pain. The cramping can be relieved by, in most cases. ,magnesium. Best of luck. Kathy Shattler, MS,RDN
