Should Meloxicam Be Taken For Severe Pain Due To Scoliosis?

My new Doctor prescribed MELOXICAM 7.5mg for pain from Scoliosis, lower back & left leg, neck & shoulders. I am a 73 yr old Female with many Allergies, Chronic Bronchitis, so I read the accompanying warnings & side-effects. Your site says the same. These are frightening & dangerous, so why do they even make them? What should I say to my Dr.? I'm terribly tired of living with such pain. Many years ago my PPO Dr. gave me Vicodin (I am not an addictive type) which is the only thing that helps, and I rarely took even two a day. Now I have an HMO, and it seems they are afraid to prescribe anything that works, yet they give out this dangerous scary nsaid with serious side-effects or DEATH! What do you suggest?
Thank you, Pamela

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is understandable to be concerned about any possible side effects, the effects are possible not definite. It also has the advantage of not affecting the respiratory tract (breathing) or causing addiction (though you did not have this issue) or drowsiness like Vicodin.

The Mobic may help you and you may not have any side effects at all or you experience a few or many. You can consider trying it to see if it works for you.

I hope this helps.
