Should PCR Test Be Taken If HIV Duo Test Is Negative?
hey i'm a lebanese male i had unprotected sex with an italian 37 years old women and had no symptoms yet since 31 days, i had done an antigen test after 12 days which came out negative and an HIV duo test after 29 days which also came out negative but i don't still have the peace of mind so do you recommend to take the PCR test to verify or it's not necessary? please answer
Thank you for query.HIVDuo test is reliable at 31 days post exposure.It detects for P24 antigen and the antibodies against HIV.tests are usually repeated to allay the anxiety of the patient.If you want to relieve the anxiety you can go ahead with the HIV RNA-PCR test.If it is negative you need not go for any repeat test.You can get back to me for any clarifications .Dr Bharatesh D Basti
