Should A Needle Broken Inside The Thigh Be Removed?

Hi, a piece of sewing needle broke off inside my thigh. I went for X-rays and the doctor said the best thing to do would be to leave it in and let scar tissue form around it rather than taking it out. It s been a week and it s still sore.. is this okay to leave alone or should I get it removed?

Hi,

As any foreign body can cause a reaction inside the body. Therefore it is not advisable to leave it inside. However, a very small piece can be left but first of all, you should consult a General Surgeon and get evaluated.

If the size is big enough then it has to be surgically removed. For pain and tenderness, you can apply Lidocaine gel over it. Do cool compresses to reduce inflammation.

Avoid pressing the area again and again and also avoid trying to remove it at home as you can push it further in.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
