Should A Patient Suffering From Pseudogout Be Put On Allopurinol Or Colchicine To Prevent Its Reoccurrence?

My husband has had two attacks of Pseudo Gout in the last six weeks which his Dr. has ordered a Medrol pack. Yes that has helped. He is watching his diet very well. He has CHF and is on strong diuretics, which I understand could be a contributing factor. Should he not be put on Allopurinol or Colchicine, to help avoid reaccrances?

Hi,

It depends on his uric acid levels. As he is also suffering from CHF it is advisable that he takes Allopurinol if his uric acid levels are high.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammad Mostafa Ansari Ramandi,
