Should A Patient Suffering From Seizures Worry About A Lump Formation On Head After An Injury?

I recently started having seizures (11/29). I've had 6 episodes of clonic tonic seizures at this point and an abnormal EEG. I see the neurologist tomorrow. I'm concerned, because yesterday I must have hit my head at my hairline hard. I had a large egg and bruise. Today it's spread down to my eyebrow and hurts badly. It's not squishy or fluid feeling to the touch, just swollen, fairly hard, and bruised. It feels like my eye is being squeezed. Do I need care now or can I wait until tomorrow. If I call my Dr, they always say go to the ER. I've been there plenty these last couple weeks. Thank You!

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

First of all, I would like to reassure you that there is no need to worry about your current symptoms.

Most likely, you have suffered a scalp hematoma (bleeding underneath the skin over skull bone), and it would subside on its own in a few days.

You can wait until tomorrow to get the swelling examined by a neurologist. If needed, he may order for a CT scan of the head.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,

Dr Sudhir Kumar MD (Internal Medicine), DM (Neurology)
Senior Consultant Neurologist
