Should Alcohol Be Avoided Due To Throat Dryness And Blood Sugar Levels?
hello dr, i consume alcoholic drinks almost all evenings which is some times mix with some beers and whisky.....my problem is i feel my throat utterly dry and during my sleep when i go to bed drunk. is this coz of any diabetic issue, i had checked my blood sugar couple of months ago and it was 120 on fasting. Please advise if i need to stop drinking
Depends. Mostly it is from the urine being a bit of a diuretic. BUT, the breakdown products of alcohol and the metabolic byproducts of sugar when diabetes is out of control are identical. If a diabetic prone to metabolic problems (all juvenile diabetics; rarely adult onset or non-insulin dependent diabetics) then this can occur with KETOSIS. It is very dangerous. The test is urine dipstick in a.m. for sugar and KETONES. If it's positive then the alcohol is messing with the diabetes. If the urine is negative for sugar and ketones... then the dry throat is unlikely to be due to serious diabetic problems. Blood tests and doctor input are better able to give more accurate and detailed info.
