Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Should Child Be Kept Warm If Body Rigors Are There?
My five year old had croup symptoms during the night and her extremities felt cold. She had vigorous rigors for at least 30 minutes. I gave her a nebulizer treatment and added blankets to warm her (her hands were ice cold but her core was warm). An hour later, she had a high fever (102). Was it right to warm her with additional blankets?
It is better not to use blankets to warm while febrile. This may further increase body temperature. Instead using socks / gloves would be enough. Also, high fever is not expected in croup and cold peripheries may suggest dehydration- kindly take her to your doctor for evaluation.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
