Hi,

Since you are a Nurse you may be knowing the basics. First of all, get the diagnosis confirmed by Ultrasound and FNAC to rule out any cancer. If this proves to be a colloid goiter then the indication for surgery is un-sight that is not looking good. This is the cosmetic reason. Another reason can be large goiters causing problems with swallowing or causing any compression on trachea. If this is not required then you have to carry on with it. There are no medicines that can help to reduce the size of colloid goiter.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
