Should I Be Concerned About The Missing Of One Ovary?

Just had my annual check up and my periods have been light and then heavy some months. I am on the pill. I am 49 years old. Dr hd me tale vaginal ultrasound. They could not find one ovary. Should I be concerned and it was hard to find the other ovary!!!

Hello ma'am and welcome.

I take it that no surgical procedures were performed, which is why you were surprised. But I would also need to know more about your history, medications, etc. Atrophy of one ovary is not a very common scenario, and especially as you are middle-aged (49 years-old). But as long as your other ovary is functioning, and can produce sufficient amount of hormones (with a little help from supplements), I do not see a problem.

I also hope you have completed your family, if you have, then well and good. But if you intend on having more kids, then you might require a little help from your doctor. We should be able to make it possible.
