Should I Be Concerned As My Lower Left Side Of My Back Is Sore After A Fall?

Hi, today I fell over whilst iceskating and now my lower left side of my back is quite sore. The way I fell was, I was heading towards the wall of the rink and I fell forward, with my torso up against the wall and my hips/legs down on the ice. So my body was bent in a backwards 'L' shape, if you can visualise that. So I was just wondering if I could have done any possible damage to my back and how long I should wait before I go and see a doctor about it.

Thanks.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.
From description , it seems you might developed muscular or ligamentous strain over back
Ffollowing measures will help with the pain
• Lie on a hard bed.
• Anti -inflammatory drugs like Tablet Motrin 1 tablet as and when required
• Avoid forward bending.
• Avoid strenuous activity & lifting heavy weights.
• Apply diclofenac gel on the affected area. Warm compresses will also help.
if pain is severe even after 2 weeks ,I would suggest getting this evaluated by an orthopedician for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management. You may get the MRI of the area affected under his/her guidance.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
