Should I Be Concerned As My Son S Areola Area Is Puffy And Tender?
My 13 1/2 year old son has brought it to my attention that his right areola area is a little puffy and tender. In the last year, he has went through a lot of physical changes...acne being one of them. I ve read on line about this condition could be a part of puberty. Should I be concerned? His pediatrician has placed him on an antibiotic for the acne but we have not consulted her yet with the swollen area.
I can understand your concern for the puffy and tender areola in your son.
Let me reassure and guide you that your 13 year old son is undergoing usual part of changes in body. These are known as prepubertal changes. Because of these prepubertal changes he is getting puffy and tender areola. It is time when boys won't get the increase in breast size and the activity is halted. In girls after this time there is increase in breast size.
So just relax and do not worry. It may remain for 1-2 weeks of period. DO not try to touch, pinch or pop the area. In my patients with this kind of problem I prefer ot give a simple pain killer such as paracetamol or ibuprofen.
Your son will be alright in next few days.
All the best.
