Hi Dr Grief My Name is Clay I am a 50 year old male diagnosed with pvc about 2 years ago. My Doctor told me it was nothing to worry about it is something i will have to live with. I have read different stating that these frequent attacks can cause more serious arrythmia problems. My heart skips almost daily, should i be concerned or just ignore it like he says?
HI Mr Clay. Welcome to HCM. Premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) are extra, abnormal heartbeats that begin in one of your heart's two lower pumping chambers (ventricles). These extra beats disrupt your regular heart rhythm, sometimes causing you to feel a flip-flop or skipped beat in your chest. Premature ventricular contractions are very common and they occur in most people at some point. If you have occasional premature ventricular contractions, but you're an otherwise healthy person, there's generally no reason for concern, and no treatment is needed. If you have frequent premature ventricular contractions or underlying heart disease, you may need treatment to help you feel better and treat underlying heart problems. U should have mentioned if u r suffering from any other heart related diseases. I suggest u to keep away from alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, too much exercise and anxiety. if u are suffering from hypertension and on drugs for that then don't skip those medications. If u have frequent PVCs then there is risk of arrythmia. This your doctor would have assessed by now and put u in the bracket of low risk. If u r in doubt do have a second opinion. All d best....
