Should I Be Worried Of The Electrical Current Feeling Going Up And Down Neck On Both Sides?

Hello, for the last couple of months I have had this small what I like to call "electrical current feeling " going up and down my neck on both sides, mainly behind the ears. I attributed it to anxiety or something, but it doesnt seem to go away. It doesnt hurt or affect my everyday life, but it is a little bothersome. Should I be too concerned?

HI
Thank for asking to HCM
I really appreciate your concern, this is the functional disorder (Hallucination) initially I advise my patient if they ever come to me with such complain, to control their thoughts and impulses, keep stress level very low, keep the moral value very high, if this is being done then it just not only gives good result but could save you from the ant psychiatric drugs, try these and have nice time.

Neurologist, Surgical Dr. Vinay Bhardwaj's  Response
Hi, My name is Vinay. I'm sure this feeling of tiny little electrical currents is quite disconcerting. I'm glad your keeping calm and asking the right questions. Let me see if I can give you some basic information that can help you decide on whether it needs more attention or not.

The parts of the neck your mentioning (skin behind the ears) are supplied with sensation.. with pain.. temp.. all those senses by nerves that emerge from the tiny spaces between the vertebrae in your neck.

Now there are a lot of different issues and medications that can cause this kind of 'electrical shock' feeling. But the one that I'd want looked into is those nerves are being pinched by the bones that they emerge from.

A pinched cervical nerve is an issue that needs to be evaluated by your Primary Doctor.. X-rays and scans would be able to tell them if anything needs to be done to fix this or if everything is hunky dory.

Now.. Should you be worried.... probably not (doctorspeak for "I wouldn't be"). Since these feelings of electrical current haven't really disabled you in any way and don't seem to bother you much.. I don't think you should go running to the ER just yet..

Hopefully you schedule regular physicals with your doctor (if you don't.. please do :-) ). I'd bring this up with them the next time you're in to see them.

I really hope this helps. Feel free to contact me through HCM if you want further clarification or any other info.

Vin
