Should I Continue 'oflomac' For Loose Motions In My Child?

Hi ,
My 5.5 month old son is having loose motions for past 7 days . My doc gave Oflomac and a probiotic with Domistol. I gave domistol and probiotic for 3 days without the antibiotic ... but the motions didnt reduce. So I started with the anitibiotic . Its been 3 days since i am giving 5ml Oflomac twice in a day . Today morning I felt the stools are a bit smelly though I feel the volume of stools have reduced but after every feed he's passing motion. Also yesterday he developed fever also. I gave crocin drops. Dont know what to do ? Should I continue giving Oflomac ...

Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.

It seems your kid is having acute watery diarrhoea. Unless the kid's having low urine output or very dull or excessively sleepy or blood in motion or green bilious vomiting...you need not worry.

There is no need to use antibioitcs unless there is blood in the motion. Antibiotics might worsen if unnecessarily used causing antibiotic associated diarrhoea.

I suggest you use zinc supplements (Z&D drops 1ml once daily for 14 days) & ORS (Each small packet mixed in 200ml of potable water and keep giving sip by sip) as hydration is very important and crucial part of treatment. If there is vomiting you can use Syrup Ondanisetron (2.5ml thrice a day, half an hour before feeding).

Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish your kid good health.
