Should I Go For A Scan As I Am Having Swelling On My Front Head After Hitting On A Wall?

Dear doctor, I bang my front head to the wall as I was walking. There was an immediate swell and got bigger within minutes. I iced my head immediately and the swell has reduced tremendously. I still feel pain. But otherwise I can still continue with my daily routine. Should I still get my scan?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

A scan is necessary when you experience the following syptoms :

- constant headache
- Vomitings
- Blurring of vision
- deterioration in sensorium or losing consciousness
- Neurological disturbances in limbs etc

Otherwise, no further investigations are necessary, as the swelling on the forehead will resolve spontaneously within 1-2 weeks.

If you are concerned, approach your family physician for a clinical examination to rule out any serious injury to the brain.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
