Should I Go For Two Separate Surgeries For Sinus Problem And Improper Nose Appearance?

Hello my name is Stefanie and I am looking for a second opinion. I have been seeing an ENT for sinus disease in my ethmoid, frontal and maxillary sinuses. She has decided I am a great candidate for sinus surgery to open up my sinuses and increase the size of my ostium. I also want to cosmetically improve the appearance of my nose by slightly narrowing the bridge and having a straighter profile. I asked if we could do one surgery instead of two different surgeries however she would prefer to do separate surgeries. I can not decide if its for the best or if it is due to more financial gain on her side for two separate surgeries.

Hi, financial gains usually do not change medical decisions whatever may be the perception of general public if one is practicing in an ethical way which one should. Sinus infection/blockade is treated endoscopically and after surgery care requires one to irrigate the nasal cavities as well as repeated endoscopic clearance of scabs if required. Cosmetic correction of nose usually should not be mixed with a procedure where infection is to be removed from the nose or sinuses as the chances of infecting a clean surgical field of cosmetic surgery by an infective field from sinus surgery are there. So, it is advisable to do the infective surgery and cosmetic surgery separately. Your doctor must have, after considering the manipulation required for opening up sinuses, advised to get the two surgeries separately. Regards
