I am in day four of a head cold and can feel the cough settling into my chest. I have a dry cough, thus far, but can feel that more is on the way. I generally get terrible coughs with colds. I am scheduled for a D & C tomorrow morning. Should I proceed?
In order to answer this question, you really need to speak with your doctor and the anesthesiologist. It really depends on many factors, especially on how urgent your need is to get the D&C. Other things your doctor will have to evaluate is whether or not you have any other risk factors that could make anesthesia dangerous such as lung disease. If the D&C is urgent, and you are otherwise healthy, it may be more important to do the D&C even when you have an illness like you describe. However, if the D&C is not urgent, especially if you have other risk factors, it may be a better ideas to wait. So please discuss this with your doctor so you can make the decision that is right for you.
