Should I Stop Taking Antibiotics If There Is No Urinary Infection?

My nurse practioner thought I had a urine infection during the week, and prescribed me antibiotics, but the lab test came back as not a urine infection and to do another sample in etc 2 weeks, the pain has moved round to my side and lower back, and I feel yuk and exhausted most of the time. I stopped taking the antibiotics yesterday, after taking for 2 days, because as it s not a urine infection, thought it best? Have I done the right thing? Help, thank you, x

Hi and welcome to HCM...
I thank you for posting your query..

I being a surgeon, we encounter so many such cases day in and day out..
I read your question completely and have understood it well enough..

Well, please note the following few facts..
1. Urinary tract infection, Uti is a very common problem nowadays.
And females are more prone to develop this infection..

2. Various articles published says that, start antibiotic based on evidence of urine culture and sensitivity.

3. If you are sure than your urine test was normal and no infection, then yes definitely you can stop..
And generally, treatment is required for 1 to 2 weeks if Uti present.

4. So do not worry..
Now forget everything and be happy.
Keep a track of your symptoms, like increased urination, burning sensation, blood in urine etc.
In case you develop any or all of these then better to get these following tests once again.
A. Urine routine and microscopy
B. Urine culture.

5. In case you don't see any of these then, no worries..

As of now your cab stop all the medications, including antibiotics.
And your symptoms of mild pain will subside slowly, do not worry.

Hope this helps you, in case you need any further assistance, please let me know.
Take care and God bless..
