HI.. i am running in 7th week pregnancy and i had POCD and i am suggested with puregest tablet to be taken till 3 months.. but i read in internet that purgest is not good for pregnanats. could any one please tell me if i need to continue or should i stop taking it
It contains progesterone, However progesterone is not approved for use during pregnancy in any advanced country such as US, UK etc. Some authorities in the past used to recommend its use in recurrent miscarriage or threatened abortion but now there is now no evidence of any benefit from such practice and recommend against the use in early pregnancy unless there is proven deficiency. One problem with this medicine is that female baby may suffer from hirsutism (unwanted hair on face, chest etc).
In case of PCOD, many doctors still put on these tablets to continue pregnancy smoothly. The benefits is more important than risks involved in using this drug in your case. It is preferable to give dydrogesterone (sold as Duphaston) or medroxyprogesterone (sold as Meprate). This you have to clarify with your doctor and if he is confident on what he is recommending then go for it. Many doctor still prescribe puregest.
