Should I Take Progesterone For Uterine Tissue Proliferation?
I m 67 years old and I ve been on Estring for 2+ years for vaginal dryness and itching with no apparent issues. My doctor recently suggested that I also start a low dose progesterone to avoid uterine tissue proliferation. I have an intact uterus and have been menses free for 15 years. Is this a new recommendation...adding progesterone? Can you provide any study links?
Your doctor is quite correct to ask you to go on progesterone as it does protect against uterine proliferation. You need to go on this long-term to reap full benefits.
We are not allowed to paste links or the answer will be rejected: Kindly google this study and read the abstract on pubmed: micronized progesterone regulation of the endometrial glandular cycling pool
Another related study (fairly recent) would be the following. Again, kindly google: Loss of progesterone receptor links to high proliferation and increases from primary to metastatic endometrial carcinoma lesions
Thank you Dr Shabnam
